While Elie Wiesel had to go through the hell of the Holocaust himself, Norman Finkelsteins parents had to make the same terrible experience.
But both of them have taken very different conclusions from the past:
While Elie Wiesel pretty much absolved his fellow brethren in Israel from any form of criticism, Norman Finkelstein took a very different approach with his often very hard and uncompromising criticism on Israels policies.
Actually (in a Talk-show a few years ago) Finkelstein accused the Germans of having learned absolutely nothing from the Holocaust for remaining silent in view of Israels human rights violations.
Which only shows, that even within the Jewish community, people have taken very different conclusions on how to deal best with the events of the past. |
