| Worsened the situation for who? It hardly could have gotten worse for the Jews. I have to think that he had a moral responsibility to speak out on this and to excommunicate any Catholics who were participating. The Nazis were in a fight for their lives already without taking on the Catholic Church (much more powerful then in Europe than now), how would they have reacted to a courageous pope? |
