Remember the debates between Nixon and Kennedy, when Nixon looked shifty-eyed, blue-chinned, tense and spent? Remember Kennedy`s appearance of youth, calmness and hope? The parallels with the McCain and Obama debates are uncanny, though different. McCain consistently has looked old, tired, ill, strained and not at ease with himself. Obama looks youthful, calm, Presidential and full of promise. What stands between Obama and the White House? Only his race. Are there enough brain-dead red-necked racists in the USA to elect the washed-up McCain to the Presidency? I fear so. McCain`s election would represent a defining moment in a long decline of America as a world power. It would do fearful things to the American psyche. |
