Much of the debate around the incident is based on the pro-Jewish groups accepting one version of the facts and the pro-Arab group accepting another. No system of justice is perfect or completely free of bias but the Israeli system is pretty good. Tawfik Jamal will be represented by competent counsel and will, presumably, appear before the same judicial system that has both convicted and acquitted Arab`s of alleged wrong doings. Let`s see what transpires.
In the meantime one would hope that cooler heads would prevail. Even if Tawfik did wrong, this doesn`t mean that every Arab in Israel is disrespectful. And, similarly, even if the orthodox in question who attacked Tawfik did wrong, this doesn`t mean that all Jews in Israel are violently inclined towards Arabs. In fact, on this latter point, Arabs should appreciate and take to heart that most of the Arab/Israeli violence in Israel targets Jews.
Life is short. |
