But from a narrow Israel/Jewish perspective how has the McCain supported Bush invasion of Iraq impacted the state of the Jews? Or, put another way, Is Israel better off today than eight years ago; will she be better off eight years hence should McCain take over from his Republican predecessor?
From what was already suggested above hanging the dictator of Baghdad may have been just from a human rights perspective, but from a political-military point of view it was an unmitigated disaster. Israel (and the Gulf oil producers) now have a new military threat to deal with in Iran, and now a possible nuclear Iran! This more confident Iran is now a direct promoter of those organizations immediately threatening Israel: from Lebanon, Hezbollah; from Gaza, Hamas. The much-vaunted US defense shield of the oil fields and first line of defense against Iran for Israel which Bush inherited is in tatters leaving Israel |
