Prestige is political. It can be bought for a price, the easy way. Respect is not political. It has to be earned the hard way by producing results. Olmert lost respect trying to buy prestige.
Now Livni has to earn respect anew - if that is possible. But saving Kadima or coming up with a coalition won`t earn respect. It is what that coalition will do that may, or may not, earn respect. All she has to work with are the same people who tried so hard to buy prestige. And Olmert is still back there...caretaking. We will see what happens, maybe after the elections.
Harvey wants to see Israel again as the unterhund for whom respect comes just for whom trying hard and for whom lack of success is admissable. But now Israel is the uberhund, where just trying isn`t enough. |
