The Austrian people did not, like many people believe, vote for return of fashism, the question about the peoples` motives is not that simple.
A major factor is that the right-wing parties talk about problems that have been vigorously ignored by the governing parties. Yes there are problems concerning the integration of immigrants, especially in Vienna. The government was not able to explain the European Union to the people too.
The right-wingers were the only ones to talk about these problems, so people listened to them as there was no one else to listen to.
People don`t want to be governed by those parties but they wanted to express their anger at the government`s ignorance to problems and at their internal conflicts. No, Austria is not a country of nazis, but unfortunately nobody else has offered a serious alternative for the people. |
