This is a statement ` made in the air`. He is very close to an agreement, with whom? A faction of the Palestinians? a Syrian leader whose alliance with Iran is according to him his most important one? The fact is Israel is threatened now in a way it has never really been before. On two sides of it are groups with rockets and missiles capable of hitting considerable parts of our territory. These are Palestinians and radical Islamist Shiites who have no intention whatsoever of letting Israel live in peace even if its borders are those of Metropolitan North Tel Aviv. It is totally irresponsible for Olmert to not focus on this the real reality of our situation, and instead focus on an imaginary peace negotiation. This is not to say that five or ten or fifteen years from now these questions might not be raised in this way. But `now` this is not Israel`s reality , and it cannot be - given the powers on the ground. |
