| Hi Jeff, I`m aware that the legal status both of the Green Line and of the west Bank itself is somewhat controversial, however, the exact legal status of the Green Line is not as important as its status in the eyes of the world. The Green Line is a de facto border in the sense that the international community recognises full Israeli sovereignty to the west of it, but not to the east. Similarly the Arab League are prepared to recognise Israeli sovereignty to the west, but not to the east. I know Israel would like to consider the status of the West Bank as up for negotiation, but apart from minor mutual land swaps, it isn`t. The Arab League and the Pals have made a huge land concession by offering to recognise Israeli control west of the Green Line. There will be no more concessions on land beyond minor mutual land swaps. You know it and I know it. |
