Howdy Michael;
Like many people, you are assuming erroneously that the Green Line is or was a border. On the contrary, it was a temporary armistice line which only lasted between 1949 and 1967. The Green Line was established on 4/3/49 "without prejudice to future territorial settlements or boundary lines or to claims of either Party relating thereto" and was abolished on 6/5/67 when Jordan attacked Israel across the Green Line during the Six-Day War even though Jordan could have stayed out of it.
However, as a practical matter, it doesn`t make too much sense to me for Israel to try to hang on to settlements on the "wrong" side of the security barrier forever including those in the Jordan Valley. They should be relocated to the seam-zone area (the area between the Green Line and the security barrier) which will consolidate Israel`s defenses. |
