The "Alawite Clan" of Mr.Assad and his close in advisers are under attack, mainly due to the death of Mr.Imad Mughniyah which took place in the compound where Syrian Intelligence Officers are bivouacked. Some weeks later Gen Suleiman also a member of the Alawite Clan was reportedly assassinated at a sea side resort, as a so called reprisal, (?) by a sniper on a passing yacht. Other theories abound. The fact is, Syria has problems with Hamas and more than likely Hezbollah, possibly due to increased pressure from Iran. Again there are known factors of deep mistrust and failings between all three parties. These problems should not be linked to the peace talks currently on hold with Turkish mediators. The unfortunate car bombing, is without a doubt a clear message to Damascus. Knowing the Syrian reaction, we will see further accidents or mishaps in Beirut,Damascus and farther afield. The saying "Never mess with an Alawite", is certainly true. My condolences to those that have suffered |
