If you should ever see McCartney in the flesh, don`t even think about going up to him to say how much you like his music or - heaven forbid - ask him for his autograph. You`ll find you like him and his music a whole lot less. I was told by a fan that he once met McCartney in London, asked him for his autograph and was presented with a white card which McCartney "signed" with a rubber stamp which he kept in his pocket for the purpose. The fan handed it back with a "No thanks, Paul". This story of the rubber stamped cards was confirmed by the owner of a Beatles fan shop in Sussex. If only the cards were consecutively numbered, they would still have value, he said. McCartney knows his autograph is valuable and, in spite of the squillions he himself owns, doesn`t want anyone else to benefit from meeting him. |
