When you are desperate for the release of a captive, you don`t "approve a list of prisoners", as if the whole matter is something under your control. You pay the price, and you pay it quickly before it goes up. Israel holds none of the aces in this instance. Livni - if she is at all sensible - will release the 1400 Palestinian prisoners and get Shalit home. No-one will think any the worse of her - in fact she will be lauded for her decisiveness. If she does not end this matter immediately it will grumble on and sour her premiership. |
