| Not only don`t I know anyone without a fridge, a washing machine or a cellphone but I don`t know anyone that knows anyone without these things either. And I live in Holon in a very nice, shared apartment. $750 per month divided by 3. If you don`t have food then there are many religious groups that will deliver it to you every day and consider it a mitzva. The `poverty level` is a deceptive thing and it varies country by country. When does one fall below the poverty level in Israel? No cellphone? No internet connection etc. There are people in places like Bnei Brak where a family has 8-9 children and nobody works and they claim hardship but like I said they can easily get food and the number of children and unemployment is a personal choice. Single social security in Israel is nis 1750 per month plus extra for a couple and for every child. I am vegetarian and don`t spend much more than nis 500 per month on food.
