| The spiritual leader of the Shas Party, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, had once said that the overriding religious laws which saves Jewish lives dominates a decision based from the writings of the Torah. I don`t have the exact wording but this is the most significant attribute which overrides all religious, political and socioeconomic considerations. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, like myself of Babylonian Jewish heritage, has the obligation to adhere to the significance of reconciliation with the Arab world, a region where we`ve coexisted, and if that decision entails sharing Jerusalem which would imply the utmost security for the Jewish people as well as continuity of Judaism, combats global anti-Semitism, then this should be the crux of discussion when he convenes the Shas party`s council of Torah sages to formulate their position. It is imperative that the Jewish state reach a settlement with our adversaries in the coming months for the sake of future generations. |
