The head of the executive branch is titularly the President, who is currently Shimon Peres, a man. Dalia Itzik, the present speaker of the Knesset, had been president after Moshe Katsav resigned and before Peres was elected to the post. As the name implies, the Prime Minister, not the speaker, is the head of the legislative branch.
