Maybe women don`t rise to the top as often because they are -- on average -- less ferociously competitive than men.

Ever listened to two men talk? They tend to converse in the form of an argument -- even if they actually agree. Ever listened to two women talk? They will strive to make it sound as if there is unanimity -- even if they disagree completely. Women are compulsive team players. Every man, deep down inside, wants to be king of the hill.

I don`t see this as either good or bad -- but I do see it as an explanation. Maybe not a complete explanation -- but we may only be setting ourselves up for grief if we persist in endlessly trying to destroy a glass ceiling that is not invariably there. I doubt if half of all leadership positions in all fields will ever be held by women.
