Benjamin Weinthal : The hallmark of anti-Semitism

One aspect of anti-semitism here defined is holding Israel to a higher standard than other states. That`s a fair point, though, since Israel aspires to be a western democracy, it is reasonable to compare Israel more with western countries than with moral disaster areas like Sudan.

However, the reverse also applies. It is not fair to call criticism of Israel or Jews anti-semitic when it is no worse than that launched at other groups. As a Brit, who occasionally hangs around on this site, I am used to all sorts of things being said about Brits. We`re said to be racist, arrogant, duplicitous, responsible for most of the world`s conflicts etc. etc. Some of the criticism has an elemnt of truth, but a lot of it is grossly distorted. However, I see those making such attacks as ignorant and careless. I don`t see them as irredeemably evil with lives almost wholly dedicated to hating Britain. Similarly unfair criticism of Jews or Israel does not necessarily make someone an anti-semite.
