Sadly, the PA Police have on many occasions joined with the militants fighting the IDF. So there is a reasonable lack of trust in the PA authorities.

Most important though is the self-inflicted nature of the Pals problems. If the Pals would stop trying to kill Israeli Jews there would be NO need for the restrictive policy (one that has been enormously effective in reducing terrorist attacks)Israel has resorted to.

In fact the non-violent nature of the Israeli response(roadblocks etc.) is often overlooked. In Lebanon for instance last summer(2008) the army surrounded the Pal camp and destroyed it, killing many of the fighters inside the camp.
