| Olmert finally has the courage to tell Israelis the truth: the only viable long-term solution is a unitary state. This would solve all open issues - the right of return becomes irrelevant, as arab Israelis will be free to settle anywhere, the status of Jerusalem as undisputed capital of the state will be taken for granted, the issue of compensation for the victims of the struggle on both sides will become an issue of internal social affairs, as it is in most other states. Only a unitary state will have the political legitimacy and the critical economic mass to become a beacon unto nations. Take a cue from recent examples that show the way, e.g. South Africa, or the reintegration of Eastern Europe. |
