| These are smart and seasoned diplomates who know the USA is strongh enough to engage with Iran and prsent sensible alternatives; including the need to stop the belligerent talk about the destruction of Israel. There is still a chance, with Khatami and the exiles and many in the leadership cadre who do not like what Khamenei and Ahmadinejad are doing, to work to undermine them, oust them and bring moderate Islam together with the Iranian peoples` general desire for success and peace. Sound like a pipe dream? Maybe. But better to try it this way first, in front of the whole world and if they betray us, cheat or lie, or worsen their rhetoric and actions, going after them then will garner more international support. All the bluster aside, Mahmoud is a paper tiger who just isn`t being properly challenged. There are an awful lot of smart, decent well-educated people in Iran yearning to get out from under the strictures of the current regime. |
