| maintaining the Jewish character of Israel? I hear, respect, and agree with the Right`s argument against every other justification for a Palestinian state, but on this one particular and most pressing of issues, I have never heard a rational response as to how Israel will deal with it. It is this realization that converted all of the former Likudniks - the Olmerts, Sharons, Livnis etc. - and I would *LOVE* to hear an articulate thinker on the right demonstrate why we should not worry about such a scenario. Absent that, I, as a lifelong right-winger, lover of the land and people and state of Israel, have no choice but to support any politician whose goal it is to set up a system in which we have the maximum number of Jews and the minimum number of Arabs on our side of the fence. And if that means parting with Shiloh and Shchem and Beit Lechem and Hevron and Yericho and even much of East Jerusalem (areas which are under Israeli control in name only, where most Jews NEVER venture)so be it |
