Lynn suffers from what is called "American exceptionalism", that is, my tribe is better than the other tribes. Because the US has such influence on the rest of the world, this attitude is really annoying. On the other hand, citizens of every other country suffer from the same attitude, e.g. I am sure that a majority of Israels believe that they are `better` than their neighbors.
Having watched Israeli politics, I am not convinced that proportional representation is the best of all possible forms of democracy. Again, the two political parties in the US are actually alliances of political groups that would, in a proportional system, be their own parties. In the end, I am not convinced there is a perfect system. If I were an American exceptionalist, I would highly recommend the electoral college to all but enough is enough.♠ |
