Haaretz contacted Eitan to give him the option to "clarify" his comments made in Der Spiegel.

Does He Ever!

There can be no retconning the comments he made in that magazine now, because he goes out of his way to remove any ambiguity:
1) STATES are entitled to kidnap a foreign leader if that leader is a threat to that state.
2) Ahmadinejad is a threat to the state of Israel.
3) Israel has carried out its right to kidnap before (e.g. Dirani)
4) Israel should not hesitate to do so in future ("the response needs to be counter-kidnapping of their army officers")

Therefore there can be no "interpretation" of Eitan`s words: Israel is threatened by Ahmadinejah, and therefore Israel is legitimately entitled to kidnap him.

The ravings of a crazy, and yet there is not a peep out of the government to which he belongs.

This is what passes for public discourse in Israel, is it?
