"Ivar, you`re joking." (Josh B) Ivar is not joking, and you are consistently wrong. First, because "when our neighbors invaded and tried to exterminate us, Israel consisted of the land granted to us" NOT by the Balfour declaration, but by the UN General Assembly when it decided on the partition of Palestine, Resolution 181, November 29, 1947.
Second, and more important, because Ivar #4 is right: "The present security problem of Israel was created by Israel`s OCCUPATION of her neigbour`s lands", and recalling the 1948 war does nothing at all to deny the truth of Ivar`s line. See "Trapped Fools: Thirty Years of Israeli Policy in the Territories", by Shlomo Gazit, former IDF Major General, first Coordinator of Government Operations in the occupied territories, former Head of the Israeli Military Intelligence, and former President of the Ben Gurion U in Beer-Sheva. "His is not a thesis-driven account. Indeed, the strength of `Trapped Fools` is its balanced description of Israeli policies and performance in the Occupied Territories from 1967 to 1997. As his title indicates, Gazit sees the decades-long military occupation as A TERRIBLE BLUNDER..." Carl Brown, in www.foreignaffairs.org
Not by any mean can the "decades-long military occupation" of a foreign and stateless population be explained and legitimized by the memory of the 1948 war. As long as there are settlements, there will be occupation, no Palestinian state - and no peace for Israel. |
