The perfect shouldn`t be the enemy of the good. We`ll still need oil for the foreseeable future - for lubricants, ships and planes, etc. But those who take small trips, and those who must contend with city traffic, will find this a terrific alternative. Apropos, one recent radio program dealing with electric cars failed to mention the Better Place initiative - remarkable because it solves some of the very problems they describe with electric cars. Their "recharge station" idea with quick exchange of battery packs is truly revolutionary.
It`s true, one doesn`t get the full reduction in CO-2 if we`re still relying on oil or coal for electricity. But there`s nothing stopping Israel from going forward with latest generation nuclear. Wave and solar should also be pursued, but they`ll likely be only supplements for the foreseeable future. |
