The authority for US forces to be in Iraq expires December 31, 2008. If there is no agreement by then by the Iraqis for US forces to stay longer, US forces must exit. Game Over.

This article fails to mention one person of greater influence than Talibani; that is Grand Ayatollah al Sistani. He put out the word some months ago than no agreement will be acceptable or accepted by the Iraqi people unless ratified by the Iraqi Parliament.
Still-President Bush is a slow learner, but is learning that compromise on his part is needed. He cannot talk al Sistani out of his position on ratification because al Sistani won`t take the call.
There may be no agreement to bind or not bind our next President. US troops may have to be precipitously withdrawn by Bush. |
