Although I consider myself a zionist, I rather be a Jew in Morocco than a Marokait in Israel. I remember how people`s faces will drop and turn disgusted when I told them that I was not tsorfatit but Marokait. They were repelled! You would think I had leprosy! I was then a cute university student. You have no idea how hurtful, debilitating and self esteem destroying that kind of "racism` creates in a young person. I am shocked that Moroccan Jews have not engaged in more violence to protest their treatment & I can`t believe they are still enthusiastic zionists despite the discrimination meted out to them. Sure, I still root for the place because I have family there but I will never live there. I fled from the hatred and the contempt.
