This statement is misleading:
"After the IDF`s withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000, the UN determined that the border between Israel and Syria crossed the village"

No.

The UN, Israel, Syria and Lebanon always knew where the border was, and UNTIL 1982 the village of Ghajar lay entirely within the Syrian side of that border.

It was only AFTER Israel seized control of the "security zone" south of the Litani River that the village of Ghajar was (deliberately) allowed by Israel to sprawl over the border into Lebanon.

Why do that?

Because Israel wanted the village to sprawl in the hope that this would necessitate the redrawing of the border.

A border adjustment that would then ALSO move the Wazzani Springs out of Lebanon and into the Golan....

That (aborted) plan to gain Wazzani Springs by stealth is the root cause of this entire problem and therefore, so sorry, nobody should feel any sympathy for Israel`s "plight" regarding North Ghajar.
