I have been trying in vain for two years to get a permit from the Israeli authorities to visit Gaza.
On 27 October this year the Gaza Community Health Care Program is organizing a conference to which people from abroad have been invited. I would very much like to attend the conference because of my interest in mental health problems associated with occupation and repression. The chances of getting a permit however are very small and I had already resigned myself to taking part through a video link from Ramallah. But this sounds very promising. I am going to contact the organizers to find out when the next boat will sail somewhere in October! I am quite serious. This is the way for civil society in Gaza to establish contacts with the outside world. What starts from small beginnings may become quite something. |
