The Berlin airlift came about after WWII was ended and the cold war had begun. West Berlin was a tiny island surrounded by East Germany. East Germany cut off West Berlin from all outside sources of supplies - road blocks, etc. The USA broke the "blockade" by bringing in supplies by airlift. Many planeloads of supplies every day to relieve the shortages in West Berlin.
The Gaza crisis is similar. It, too, was the result of war. Israel has cut off Gaza from outside sources of supplies. The little ships were the first two (probably of many) ships which defied the political masters and brought supplies to the isolated Gazan people. Ok. So they didn`t bring much. But they demonstrated that with daring it could be done.
The only thing this has to do with war is that it is the people with the weapons who created the problem. For humanitarian reasons, the little ships have defied the armed might of Israel, as the US defied the armed might of Communist East Germany. |
