I am the proud father of a beautiful autistic boy, who is five years old.
Of course it can sometimes be difficult to parent a child with special needs, regardless of the nature of the disability.
But our little boy has enriched our lives in more ways than I can possibly describe here. I am honoured that I have been given the opportunity to raise this precious human life, and to grow and develop as a father and as a person because of this experience.
With plenty of loving care, our son, who could not speak a single word until he was three years old, is now integrated in a mainstream educational environment, and speaks both English and Hebrew fluently. He has amazing skills in mathematics, and, most importantly, has a wide circle of friends (both autistic and neurotypical).
However, I would agree that the so-called social services in Israel are worse than useless. We have been pretty much on our own in all this. My son has succeeded in spite of this. |
