Others have pointed out that throughout the 20th century no right of return has been accorded to many peoples. In Canada, Indians who were excluded from membership in their tribes by reason of marriage to whites, getting a University education and other ridiculous reasons, recently got a very limited right of return. Only those who were excluded were entitled to reinstatement of citizenship and not their children or grandchildren. The impact of a right of return was balanced against any individual`s desire to return.
The only right that is pretty much absolute is the right of self defence. That right trumps any desire to return and that is precisely what is at issue with respect to Israel. And the balance is complicated because of what has become intensely vile, hateful, barbaric, and murderous nature of Palestinian society, not that Pals were kind or even accepting of Jews prior to the birth of Israel. |
