| Not to break anyone`s hopes, and although this a very sketchy description, I would like to point that steam is not often used anymore and the reason can be understood from basic thermodynamics. The best efficiency an engine (heat engine) can ever produce is related to the difference between the max and min of the temperature cycle of the engine, the greater this difference the greater the efficiency. Since steam is rather cold (relative say to burning gasoline) it would not be very efficient. At least no one mentioned a perpetuum-mobile machine or lighting all of Ramat-Gan with a single light bulb. And yes, I am a physicist. |
