Interior Minister Shetreet is doin` it backwards. Non-Halachic Jews who come on the basis of the Law of Return are welcome, many of them "economic refugees from their country of orgin who arrive, not to return to their Homeland, but improve their material circumstances--Dat` coo!
I recall that when the Bene Israel applied to come on Aliyah, the Eastern European establish were worried about the "tropical diseases" they would bring. Only later did the Rabbinate discuss the Halachic issues. So . . . Zionist Left in the early days of the State came up with "racist" excuses to prevent them from coming, and later on threw the book at the Rabbinate. . . when they hold the keys so they can get here in the first place.
It would seem that there is something rotten in Denmark, or at least the Ministry of the Interior. I detect a hint of post-Zionism, but who I to doubt Minister Sheetreet`s devotion to the concept of Shivat Zion. |
