| Syrias debt this time is it gets Russia back into the Middle East. In the past it was mainly Syria & Egypt and on a smaller scale Iraq that were Russias door into the region. Today the US runs Iraq, Egypt prefers to have America as a friend more than it wants Russia allthough they have shown an interest in starting to buy some Russian weapons recently. Syria is still the Alawite dictaitorship that doesnt have close ties with the west that it was during the cold war. Iran is run by nuts and allmost all their weapons come from Russia, North Korea or China and they do anualy billions of dolars worth of trade & Russia provides them with a UN Security Council veto against sanctions. Russia also wants to intefear with oil pipeline routes politicly so buying friends in Iran & Syria through weapons sales or subsidies is a small price to pay. |
