"Russia is after power, and it does not care that in the process it might jeopardise the existence of Israel."
I don`t persinally think Putin is interested in destroying Israel, but I do agree with you that he is interested in restoring Russian power and prestige. And why not? Every country acts in its own self-interest, without worrying too much about others. Israel particularly.
Rice and Bush accuse Putin of playing Cold War but it`s really they and NATO who have been doing that by gradually advancing NATO`s borders right up to Russia`s. Russia sees that as an agressive move and it`s not hard to see why.
Also, in the case of Georgia, Saakashvili seems the main idiot repsonsible for the current mess, by ordering his troops into South Ossetia and then going whining to the White House when the Russians, fairly predictably, flattened them to protect the South Ossetians, many of whom have Russian passports.
Israel should probably begin to pay more respect to Russia. |
