Russia helped Syria all this time anyway. Russian military advisers were in Syria all this time. Russia supplied syrians with weapons during last 4 years just like it did during last 40 years (did it save syrians?), so Russia can`t now complain that Israel supplies arms and train georgian forces.
Moreover, so far Israel supplied only small amount of relatively light weapons, and even with that georgians succeeded in shooting down 2 Russian planes. If Russia foolishly think it can arm our enemies without being punished - next time we will sell Merkava and artillery to georgians.
Russian weapons are crap anyway so syrains will not benefit from it too much. On the other hand georgians can gain a lot by having israeli state-of-the-art weapons, so Russia should think twice about this.
Russia still thinks about itself as a superpower which it is not, not in economical and not even in military sence. Russian military budget is only $35B - similar to UK`s and only twice bigger than Israeli. |
