| When the Jews invaded Palestine in the late 1940`s they started a war which still continues to this day. There have been a number of lulls and flare ups during this war, but it is still the same war. To "recognize the right of Israel to exist", is a capitulation and acknowledgement that the war is over and that Israel has won. There are probably a lot of people that are willing to do this but there are also a lot who are unwilling, particularly in light of the fact that Israels support in the international community has been continually dwindling. This, along with the rising strength of some Islamic groups, including Hizbollah, are giving hope to Israels enemies. There is not likely to be an acknowledgement favoring Israel from anyone other than Abbas, who doesn`t count. This war can last a long time yet, but is likely to be over in 20 years. It isn`t certain who the winner will be at this point. |
