| Historically spoken, Jews had always a impact on sports. Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Team: 47 Championships, 36 Cups, 5 European Cups Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv is the first and most successful basketball club in Israel. It all started in the mid-thirties in the center of Tel Aviv as part of the Maccabi Tel Aviv Sports Club (founded in 1908). Hank Greenberg national Baseball, as well as Moe Berg, Herb Brown and Larry Brown of the NBA,Leon Rottman in the Olympic Canoeing, Felix Schmal of Austria won the gold medal in Olympic cycling, Between 1896 and 1976, 38 Jewish fencers won 76 medals in olympic competitions. Yuri Lyapkin of the U.S.S.R. won an Olympic gold medal in 1976 in Ice Hockey. Irwin Cohen, David Pruzansky and Steve Cohen won National titles in Judo. And the list goes on and on... I myself won a national title in weightlifting in Barcelona. So much for Jews who contributed worldwide to Sports! |
