| Russia has her own national imperatives, and since the end of the USSR the policy of "the West" has been to take advantage of her weakness and push and push her into a corner. Well, push has come to shove, and "the West" now pretends that it is shocked. Why, exactly? Levy is right; like all bullies the West did not know when to stop, and it has now been reminded that it is possible to Go Too Far. After all, what on Earth is the USA (or NATO) doing in the Causcusas, and why on Earth did they ever think it was a good idea to whisper sweet nothings into the head of a prize dimwit like Saakashvili? He was led to believe that Russian threats were nothing but a bluff. And what he was told was a two-edged untruth i.e. Putin wasn`t bluffing, but Bush - for all his bluster - was. Bush is a moron, and Condi...well, for a supposed "Russian specialist" she is as clueless as her boss. Idiots, up against a real professional... |
