| This overpriced, obsolete piece of junk has long been a target of fierce criticism in the US Congress as a piece of pork-barrel politics for Lockheed. The C-130J has no mission different from the jet-powered C-17, and costs exactly the same - for a propeller aircraft from the 1950`s ("its really a whole new aircraft", company propaganda says). The plane has no mission for the USAF, and even less of one for Israel. Cut this turkey $3 billion purchase plan and put the money to 100 better uses. Buy C-17`s if there really is a bonafide Israeli need for such a heavy-lift capability, US is now marketing them to other nations. Likely Barak agreed to this crummy deal to atone w. Pentagon brass for his crooked arms dealing businesses - but that`s his personal problem, not Israel`s. |
