With Obama and Pelosi running american foreign policy over the near future, Israel needs dependable and strong-willed friends, and for a variety of reasons, russian and israeli interests may start to coincide, beginning with the iranian nuclear weapon ambitions. As Russia takes advantage of american defeatism to move into the islamic areas of the southern caucasian region (the oil rich and shi`a Azerbaijan, for example), they will increasingly come into conflict with Iran. (not that a russian/iranian "non-agression" pact involving the division of Azerbaijan is an impossible prelude to the eventual clash of empires) |
