| Sadly, the olympics have been a long time venue for political statements. America boycotted the 1980 olympics completely to protest the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The Soviets boycotted the following olympics in Los Angeles as payback. Nobody knows the truth of this case, but the IOC is satisfied that the rules were not broken. It is not the Iranians that are attempting to turn this atheletes illness into a political case, it is the Israelis who are doing this. |
