| Ilan, the world exhibits a fundamental misunderstanding between `murder` and `killing. That misunderstanding is reflected in the common translation of the Biblical commandment "Thou shall not kill" That is _not_ the true meaning pf the commandment. The commandment is properly translated "Thou shall not _murder". The need to distinguish between murder (such as a suicide bombing) and other unfortunate events is truly important. If you analyze more thoughtfully, you will see that the IDF (while not perfect) has an infinitely better record than the Palestinian militias on the issue of murder and attempted murder. The exchanging of prisoners who have been tried in open court with judicial safeguards (a process still virtually non-existent in Palestinian society) and found to have blood on their hands is foolish. The argument "hey we did it before" is even more foolish, if we consider the recidivism rate and the message sent to kidnappers- both of which the editorial handily ignored |
