With the way the government treats teachers- low wages- no respect- no regard for their skills or for the profession then of course this sinks down to parents and pupils.
A recent lack of English teachers led to the idea of bringing in English speaking new immigrants to teach. This is what the Ministry of Education thinks is teaching it would seem. So- teachers don`t need to study at uni or colege for a degree, get a teaching certificate- and a liscence ? All of which costs a great deal more in time and money than a teacher will earn on around 3000 shekels for the first few years of her job. But - hey the wage does go up...in comparison ...they get the holidays too right? So let`s give them a wage similar to school bus drivers.
When the goal of education is: make the parents happy - then what will be produced? Kids who can do anything and teachers who have to take it or face a barrage of complaints and threats -plus pressure from school that they "did not handle it correctly. |
