In the American military, a Lt. Col. (O-5) is considered a line officer, not a senior officer, which usually referes to full colonels (the managers of the army) and especially generals. Since the IDF command heirarchy has fewer ranks than the American (the only Lt. Gen, three stars in the US military, an O-9, is the chief of staff in Israel), it`s understandable that the higher officer ranks assume greater significance. However, I`d still hesitate to call a battalion commander a "senior officer."
As for the shooting, he should know better, especially when cameras are around. |
