It is the haaretz copywriter who incorrectly talks about a "naval destroyer", when the article clearly indicates that the Iranians are talking about "a weapon that can destroy any vessel".
A missile, Gordan, not an Iranian warship.
The 300km range is important, because that means they are NOT talking about an existing missile like the C-802 that mauled the Hanit in 2006.
Because that missile has a 200km maximum range.
This missile might be a modified C-802, or a new indigenous design, but at 300km it will have to have its own active targetting system, and not be guided by shore-based tracking radar.
Which will, indeed, give the Americans something to think about, because such a missile will definitely be able to close the Red Sea to oil tankers.
And that thought is enough to give even George Bush the heeby-geebies...... |
