It`s a leftist populist weekly magazine much more popular (287 877/week in 2007)than the anarchist "Charlie Hebdo" (140 000/week).
Since the last presidential election Marianne denigrates each week anything connected with Sarkozy. And nothing happens! Freedom of speech is much greater than at DeGaulle"s time or at Mitterand`s ( the mere existence of his mistress daughter Mazarine was a "secret d`etat" and the Elysée Palace conducted illegal telephone tapping around 2000 tappings!). Why don`t you accept the possibility that Philippe Val (Charlie`s director)was right? He`s a courageous person - He decided to republish the Danish "Mahommet" cartoons, no other editor in France had the guts to do it! I don`t doubt in his integrity. He sacked Siné because he thought it was the right thing to do. |
