The truth is different:
Many people in Turkey would like to find a way to scare the rich Jews to leave the country leaving behind their belongings so that they could steal them for free. Wasn’t this the objective of the 1941 tax law (Varlik Vergisi)? I know Jewish people living in Milas, Tire and Gulluk in 1930ies who were falsely accused to be Greek spies and forced to leave the country with their families in 24 hours. As soon as they left all their properties confiscated and houses taken over by the accusers.
Not every Jew is rich. Here in NY you can see many poor even pan handling Jews on Park Avenue around 30th street in front of a kosher restaurant. This myth has been used by anti-Semites to create jealousy and Jewish hatred for centuries. |
